What We Do

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

 Oscar Wilde

The Geoffrey Whitworth is a public theatre with over 1700 members, founded in 1948.

We produce ten or eleven productions annually, each usually lasting for 8 nights, including a Youth Group Production.

We at the Geoffrey Whitworth are proud of our reputation for presenting high quality drama. Our Mission Statements is

"to undertake the production of acknowledged classics of all countries and ages and outstanding modern plays”

To this end, the Drama Committee undertakes to create a balanced season that will excite our audience and our active membership year after year.

The theatre has excellent facilities for both members and visitors, including:

  • a raked auditorium seating 150
  • a large proscenium stage
  • a fully licensed bar
  • a coffee bar
  • two foyers
  • a rehearsal studio
  • large dressing rooms
  • plentiful on-site parking
